Is Beef Jerky Healthy?

Peppered Buffalo Beef Jerky

Sometimes, jerky gets a bad rap. Most people picture a rubbery stick that doesn’t even resemble meat that you can buy at the gas station. Not exactly appetizing, right? But when you purchase high-quality jerky (or even make your own), you’re in for a treat that not only tastes great, but is healthy for you, too. When you order our premium-grade jerky, you don’t have to worry about added preservatives, nitrites or MSG. We don’t use artificial colors and, if you’ve tried our jerky, you know we don’t use flavor-enhancers — we don’t need them. Our jerky tastes great on its own.

Our all-natural jerky is loaded with protein, making it the ideal grab-and-go snack, great for right before you hit the gym, throwing in your backpack on a hiking adventure or eating when the mid-day slump hits at the office. Mahogany Smoked Meats uses only the leanest cuts of meat, and our turkey and buffalo jerky are both tasty and naturally low in fat. In fact, most all-natural jerky has between 0 and 1 gram of fat, which is less than most commercially produced protein bars, so you can load up on muscle-building protein without increasing your fat intake.

Depending on the type of meat, calories range from around 80 calories per ounce with beef jerky; 65 calories for buffalo; around 70 calories for venison; and around 90 calories for salmon. Jerky is known for its high sodium content, but because we steer clear of MSG and preservatives, our all-natural selections have less sodium than the mass-produced jerky available at the supermarket. And you can’t beat the taste. We’re talking gourmet jerky made in small batches from a recipe that’s been passed down from generation to generation.

So the next time you’re in the mood for a rich-tasting, low-carb snack you can feel good about eating, reach for a piece of Mahogany Smoked Meats jerky.
